I was kindly invited to join the Tortoise Trail at the Roald Dahl Musuem to mark the release of the fabulous film ESIO TROT on DVD and Digital. This lovely story is about retired bachelor Mr Hoppy who is hopelessly in love with his neighbour Mrs Silver, but she is only interested in her pet tortoise Alfie, until Mr Hoppy hatches an audacious plan to win her love.
What a beautiful film, Mr Hoppy (Dustin Hoffman) is simply amazing, I love his character, a bit naughty but nice and Mrs Silver (Judi Dench) is simply lovely, and everyone should have a Mrs Silver in their life.
Alfie, the pet tortoise, is such fun and it is so endearing to see Mr Hoppy and Mrs Silver share their love of Alfie with each other.
James Cordon, tells the story in his usual cheeky chappy way that we all love.
Mrs Silver confides in Mr Hoppy that she wishes her little Alfie would grow and hence the adventure and deceptions begin, but not through malice, but with affection and love.
My daughter Charlotte and I visited the Roald Dahl Musuem to see the tortoise trail and we had a lovely time looking at Mrs Silver’s dress.
Charlotte, who is a teenager now, loves Roald Dahl books and has read many of them since she was little. Just goes to show you are never too old for Roald Dahl stories.
Charlotte and I “Bottled a Dream” just like the BFG but we can’t share our “dreams” with you as they won’t come true!
A chance for a bit of dressing up! I was unfortunately a bit too big for the clothes, but the hat fitted so I had to didn’t I? I really liked this hat, and a great way to embarrass your teenage daugher…
Charlotte couldn’t resist making a movie. I had to find all the letters for her words though, rummaging in the box I seemed to find all the wrong letters..
You can buy ESIO TROT on DVD now.
I would thoroughly recommend this film for Easter viewing or in fact anytime of year really. It is truly a lovely story. The film is just simply “magical”.

Adapted for television by the legendary Richard Curtis (Notting Hill, About Time) and Paul Mayhew-Archer, and produced by BAFTA winner Hilary Bevan Jones (State of Play, The Boat That Rocked). Find out if Mr. Hoppy is ever able to come out of his shell when ROALD DAHL’S ESIO TROT arrives on DVD and Digital on 30th March.
Based on the ever- popular children’s tale ESIO TROT written by Roald Dahl, this touching adaptation boasts a wealth of Hollywood talent. Narrated by James Corden (Into the Woods, One Chance) ROALD DAHL’S ESIO TROT stars Dustin Hoffman (Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, Quartet) as lovely Mr. Hoppy, and Dame Judi Dench (Skyfall, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) as lively Mrs. Silver and was the highest rated programme on the BBC on New Year’s Day, drawling over 6.7 million viewers.
Mr. Hoppy lives alone in his little flat in London. He has two main passions in life, his garden and Mrs. Silver who lives in the flat below. The pair often exchanges niceties but after five years shy Mr. Hoppy has never even dared to ask Mrs. Silver round for a cup of tea. Until one day when everything changes…
On the happiest day of Mrs. Silver’s life she adopts a tortoise named Alfie. Only a titchy tortoise, she fears that she will never truly be happy until Alfie gets bigger. Mr. Sliver devises a plan to help Alfie grow, and in doing so hopes that Mrs. Silver will grow to love him. He presents Mrs. Sliver with a Bedouin chant that must be read morning, noon and night. It starts to work and Alfie, slowly but surely doubles in size, or does he?
Discover an enchanting tale that explores the length we will go to make a loved one happy, as ESIO TROT makes its way to DVD and Digital on 30th March from Universal Pictures (UK).
